Centauro is an exceptional car rental company located near the airport. You can make your reservation instantly through their website. There's no need to provide a deposit if you opt for full insurance coverage. The cars are all in excellent condition and well-maintained. They are always punctual, and their airport pickup service is very convenient. For Centauro, you will need to pay a deposit based on the type of car you rent, one for fuel and another for tolls. Once you return the vehicle, the fuel deposit is refunded the next day, and the toll deposit is refunded within ten days. They accept simple debit cards, not just credit cards, even for the deposit. In one of the many rentals I've made, I had to change the vehicle due to a malfunction, and they replaced it immediately. The vehicles are brand new and fully equipped. Despite some negative reviews, I have trusted Centauro multiple times over the past three years and will continue to do so. Highly recommended for anyone in need of a reliable and hassle-free car rental experience.

Shuttle bus was there waiting for us in Faro. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Nunu and Leonardo. Was offered extra insurance but we had our own so declined. Nice & clean car. Very quick and easy to return, no quibbles from staff. Couldn't recommend more highly.

Using this car rental agency was an A+ experience. The staff was professional and very helpful and explained everything to us in detail so we can make the best decision. The shuttle from the airport was quick and convenient, and showed up on time. Unfortunately, due to my own mistake I did not secure a vehicle for our family and luggage that was large enough. They were able to accommodate us with a larger vehicle at a reasonable additional cost. It's one thing to book a car and have everything go smoothly, but it's another thing to secure vehicle that doesn't meet your needs and only realize it when you get there. That is why the customer service was A+! They were able to help me navigate this issue. We visited here in late June 2024 and will gladly use them again when we return, as we return to Portugal frequently.

We rented here for a four night holiday. The rental was a good value. In exchange for payment in advance and off-airport location, we got a good price. The car was a Ford Focus with about 31,000 km on the odometer. You will need to handle manual shifting, but that is typical in Europe. Although the front tires were worn and almost ready for replacement, the rest of the car was in good shape. It did have a few dings and scratches which were already documented, and we had to put an 1100 Euro deposit on the car when we declined insurance coverage, plus 116 Euros deposit for the fuel. We took a video of the car before driving out of the lot as a precaution. However upon return with a full tank and no damage, both deposits were returned.

How to pay

  • What are the different ways I can pay for my car hire?

    1.   Payment by Credit or Debit Card:  payment can be made using a credit/debit card (Visa/Visa Electron or Mastercard) either via our web site or on collection of the vehicle. You need to know that there will be a deposit applicable if you do not choose the Smart cover. The deposit will be refunded to you at the end of the rental if there is no new damage made to the car. For Portugal, a 100€ deposit will be charged to your debit or credit card to cover possible Via Verde toll charges. Debit cards must be nominative. If you have prepaid on the web for your vehicle you must use the same credit/debit (Visa/Visa Electron o Mastercard) when picking up the car. At our Athens & Thessaloniki offices, we only accept payment with a credit card.

    2.   Cash payment: we accept cash for your car hire in Spain and Portugal (Italy and Greece cash is not accepted). In these cases, and as a guarantee, you are required to leave a deposit for the excess applicable to the vehicle given using a credit card (NOT DEBIT).

    We do not accept prepaid cards, American Express, Maestro or Diners Club.

  • Can I pay with my credit card if I am not the person who picks up the car?

    No, the driver must present a valid credit or debit card in their name on collecting the vehicle.
