What are the different ways I can pay for my car hire?  

1.   Payment by Credit Card:  payment can be made using a credit card (Visa or Mastercard) either via our web site or on collection of the vehicle.  

2.   Payment by Debit card: you need to know that there will be a deposit applicable if you do not choose the Smart cover. The deposit will be refunded to you at the end of the rental if there is no new damage made to the car. For Portugal & Italy, if the payment is with a debit card and you choose the SMART cover, a 300€ deposit will be charged to your debit card, Debit cards must be nominative.

3.   Cash payment: We do accept cash for payment of the care hire together with a credit card (NOT DEBIT) as a guarantee, except in Italy where cash is not accepted.

We do not accept prepaid cards, Visa Electron, American Express, Maestro or Diners Club.

Can I pay with my credit card if I am not the person who picks up the car?        

No, the driver must present a valid credit or debit card in their name on collecting the vehicle.

CHARGES AND REFUNDS

How long does it take for the security deposit or the preauthorization to be reimbursed?

Preauthorization: Please note that this amount is not charged on your account, it is only blocked by your bank for the duration of your rental. Once your rental has finished, it is automatically unblocked. This movement does not generate any billing to your account.

Deposit: This is refunded automatically on returning the vehicle, the reimbursement on your card depends on your bank and may take between 5-7 days. Bear in mind that this amount is released to the account to which the credit card is associated and was used to make the deposit.

Why have I been charged on my credit card after returning the car?

All charges made after the vehicle is returned are always notified automatically by email using the address provided when booking. Some of the most common reasons for these charges are:

  • Mileage restrictions applicable at some locations and excess has been charged. 
  • Vehicle damages not covered by any of the policies taken out
  • Driver identification processing due to traffic fines

Where can I check what I have paid for my car hire?

I have returned my car outside the scheduled time. Will there be a extra charge?

We offer 2 hours courtesy time for bookings made directly on the Centauro Rent a Car website (not applicable to bookings made via a third party or agency).

If the return time is over the courtesy period, an extra day's car hire will be charged.

Have you received a traffic fine or a notification about a traffic fine?  

If you receive a traffic fine during the car hire rental period, you will be responsible for paying the amount of the fine as well as an administration handling fee.

If  you receive a fine in Spain or Portugal, the charge will be 40€ and 50€ for Italy.                                            

We will send you an email to notify you of the fine received by the local authority as well as the administration handling fee invoice. This information will be sent if we have your email address on your personal account.

The official fine will then be sent directly to you by the issuing authority and will be in your name and sent to your home address. You may not receive the fine straight away, this can take some time.

How do I request a reimbursement for unused fuel and how long does it take to receive this amount?

You do not need to request a reimbursement for unused fuel. When you return the vehicle, the proportional part of unused fuel will be automatically reimbursed.

Depending on your bank, the refund may take 24-48 hours.

INVOICES

 

I need an invoice

The invoices that we issue for our car rental services are done automatically once the car rental has finished. If you need to obtain an invoice, you can do so easily by just going to your customer area and downloading it in pdf format.

You just need to register as a customer using your email address or customer code and your password and go to the Reservations / Invoices section.
